Our Lay Dominican fraternity is part of the Central Province family, united in prayer, study, community, and apostolic mission. We are dedicated to living out the Dominican charism in our daily lives as lay men and women of faith. Further information about our fraternity’s location, members, and ministries will be added soon.
Thank you for your patience and prayers as we continue to build this page—please check back for updates!
Welcome
Our Albuquerque Fraternity was originally formed in 1951 as the Fraternity of St. Thomas Aquinas. It was established by the Dominican Friars who came to the University of New Mexico to build a Newman Center in 1950. One of the major goals of these Friars was to have a community of Lay Dominicans. Within a few years the Fraternity had over 100 members.
After 75 years, and with many changes taking place, the Fraternity is now called Nuestra Señora de las Montañas (Our Lady of the Mountains) to reflect the people, culture, land, and the devotion to Mary in New Mexico. We continue to embrace the joy and community that the friars established so long ago. Our Spiritual Assistant is Fr. Richard Litzau, OP, who meets with us on a regular basis.
Our love of prayer, study, community, and mission makes us Lay Dominicans. What makes us unique, however, is our deep love and care for one another and the joy and laughter that we share at meetings and additional social activities. We are truly family.

As a fraternity, we host Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament during which we display a Prayer Request Journal so that as a Fraternity, we pray for these petitions.
Our individual apostolates include hospice care, Lay Eucharistic Ministry, Pastoral Care, Catechesis, and In Home Care.

Meetings
We meet the first Saturday of every month at St. Therese of the Infant Jesus Parish. We begin with an optional Mass at 8:00 a.m., followed by a meeting time that includes Morning Prayer, a reflection on the Gospel, community building, common study, and business. Formation occurs after our Saturday meetings and at other designated times/places.
